Director of Agriculture

Noelymar Gonzalez-Maldonado is SCIL's Director of Agriculture. She is a Computational Data Science Cooperative Extension Specialist with UC Agriculture and Natural Resources and Adjunct Faculty at the Halıcıoğlu School of Data Science and Computing at UC San Diego. Her research focuses on sustainable agriculture and soil health, exploring the intersection of soil biogeochemistry, computational biology, agronomy and data science to address challenges in agricultural resilience. Working closely with growers, she uses mixed methods to understand management needs and decision-making, as well as multi-omics and AI tools to study soil microbiome activity, soil health and the impacts of management practices and environmental conditions. She earned her PhD in Soils and Biogeochemistry from UC Davis and completed two years of postdoctoral research as a computational biologist with the USDA Agricultural Research Service SCINet Scientific Computing Initiative.
