Battelle’s Arctic Research Operations division (ARO) serves to advance humanity's knowledge of the Arctic region, including its indigenous species and communities, and the impacts of climate change on the region. In cooperation with the NSF’s Arctic Research Support and Logistics (RLS) Program, The ARO funds fieldwork in the Arctic region and draws on the technical expertise of scientists from a vast variety of disciplines (e.g., computer science, geology, and biology).

We contributed frontend and backend web development and end-to-end cyberinfrastructure creation expertise, to build out the Arctic Gateway, a portal within ARO that supports the planning of researcher trips to the Arctic region. The Arctic Gateway provides insights on health, safety, and environment conditions as they pertain to the Arctic region, as well as guidance on proper engagement with the Arctic's indigenous communities.
